Oils/ Toxic Free Living

My (way too) Long Cleaning Journey

Cleaning Journey

I have a little story for you today.  It started quite a long time ago, but I’m going to have you jump in a couple of years ago.  As many of you know, when I got pregnant with my oldest, I grew very uncomfortable with all the toxic products that were in our home.  I didn’t want to clean the bathroom or the stove, because I knew I would be inhaling toxic fumes that I didn’t want near myself nor my baby!  The more I learned about the effects of toxic cleaning products on my hormones and that of my growing baby, I was not ok with them staying in our home.   It is downright scary what toxic products are doing to our families.  I fumbled along for several years trying to replace our cleaners.  There was a whole lotta vinegar and baking soda!  While these *can* be great and toxic free cleaning agents, they don’t smell great and they were a lot of work.  I had little concoctions for everything.  Different one for the toilet, for the counter tops, for the shower, for the kitchen.  It was time consuming and just downright annoying, especially when I was adjusting to being a new Mom and figuring out life with a newborn!  And I was completely over my house smelling like pickles all the time.  Really over it.  A little while later, we jumped into the essential oils world.  I toyed around with store bought essential oils (yikes!), and continued to make my concoctions.  I then started using Young Living Essential Oils, and while they smelled great, I was still taking tons of time to make my little concoctions.  In our private essential oils support group, everyone started talking about Thieves Cleaner.  I kind of tuned them out.  I thought the price was a little too crazy, even with how much I loved my Young Living oils.  And then everyone kept talking about it.  And talking about it.  Seriously.  They wouldn’t shut up about it.  They loved cleaning.  They loved how it smelled.  They were cleaning everything in their house with one bottle.  It was working better than anything they’d ever used, natural or not.  Blah, blah, blah.  So then I finally decided to try it.  Word on the street was that the little bottle actually lasted a long time, and I was kind of ready to prove to everyone that they were a little nutty for being so crazy about this cleaner.  And then I got it.

YOU GUYS.  I don’t yell at you on the internet much, but sometimes I need to.  The cleaner was freaking amazing.  I took an old Seventh Generation all purpose cleaner and put a capful of the cleaner in and filled the rest with water.  Yup, that’s it.  And then I started cleaning.  And I kept cleaning, because I took this one bottle and cleaned my entire house.  I just kept spraying things and cleaning them, because I couldn’t really stop.  It smelled delicious, and it was doing a fantastic job.  What. The. Heck.  I was joining the crazy crowd.

This is my first year doing some spring cleaning with Thieves, and the results have been so fun!  I’m going to include a few for you below, but really, that oven speaks for itself.   TWO YEARS AGO, before my youngest was even born, I wanted to get my ovens clean before he arrived.  They were really bad, and I decided to do my baking soda/vinegar combo.  Oh my gosh.  It was horrible, and then it took so long and looked so awful, that I just left it.  For two years.  Yup, it’s embarrassing, but I’m over it.  A couple of weeks ago, my littlest went down early and my older two were at school.  So I decided to go for it!

I did a stronger concentration than normal…about 4 or 5 to 1.  Then I sprayed the heck out of my oven and left it.  The cleaner pretty much took care of the cleaning itself.  It was insane!  I wish I had taken pictures as it was working the magic, because it literally just poured down the sides with all the gunk.  I wiped it and sprayed again 2 times, and then had to do a little scrubbing (not much) on the trouble spots.  But I have a double oven, and it took me less than 30 minutes to do both.  You guys get the picture.  It’s non-toxic, it’s awesome, and you need some.  If you’re already a Young Living member, make sure to add it to your next order and get to your spring cleaning!  If you are not a member and would like to get some for yourself, click here!

Here is one more before and after for you.  Not quite as dramatic, but it literally took me just a few minutes to spray and wipe down.  So stinking easy!
